What Cannot Be Changed #

Field Slug: Internal identifier – changing breaks existing data

Field Type: Input type – changing corrupts data

Workaround: Create new field with correct type, migrate data, delete old field.

Common Scenarios #

Fix typo: Edit field → Change label → Save

Add options: Edit field → Add Option → Enter label → Save

Make read-only: Edit field → Check “Read-Only” → Save

Best Practices #

  • Backup first: Export contacts before major changes
  • Keep options manageable: 5-15 options ideal
  • Order logically: Alphabetical or by frequency
  • Use clear labels: Avoid abbreviations
  • Brief help text: 1-2 sentences with examples

Troubleshooting #

Changes not saving: Check console errors, verify permissions, clear cache

Field not updating: Refresh (Ctrl+F5), clear WordPress cache

Options not appearing: Refresh page, clear browser cache
